今天, 經過八年的等待, 耗費兩萬美元的兩次申請, 工作簽證幾乎過期, 我收到了移民局的電郵通知. 內容如下:

Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before you get your new card call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

這封電郵告訴我, 移民局已核准我申請的永久居民居留證 (Permanent Resident Card), 也是俗稱的綠卡. 這張卡代表我能夠永久地在美國工作與出入境, 不受任何限制. 剎時間我變成了半個美國人, 完成了一個數百萬在美國的外國人的終極夢想. 朋友說我終於自由了.

心情還是極度的複雜, 回想這段歷程, 申請到後來已經出現意氣般不成功便成仁的念頭, 先前的工作最後走不下去被迫離開, 到了新公司, 第一個律師因知識不足, 把我的案子幾乎搞砸, 感覺一路潰敗卻不得不提起精神繼續戰鬥, 為了給自己一個交代還有完成母親的遺願--這個世界上最希望我留在美國的人已經看不到正在發生的驚喜了.

此刻淚眼惶惑的我想知道, 為什麼快樂不能是純然的? 為什麼要伴隨著消逝的遺憾和痛苦? 我該是這段命運的受害者還是始做俑者? 我是否值得這一切?

再次, 朋友說我終於自由了. 她們說別再想太多, 結果勝於一切.

我問自己, 有著翅膀要飛到哪裡?
